Las Vegas, CES — Elliptic Labs is using its ultrasound virtual sensor technology to take smart speakers, TVs, and other IoT devices to new levels. Its latest innovation, INNER REFLECTION™, is a presence detection technology that lets smart speakers and TVs respond naturally to user presence without having to wait for voice commands to trigger common-sense actions. Seen by OEMs as a breakthrough in the pioneering use of ultrasound in consumer electronics, INNER REFLECTION received the "Connected Home Speaker Solution of the Year" IoT Breakthrough Award.
INNER REFLECTION gives media-capable devices (such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod) the ability to detect presence and track motion, enabling behaviors such as turning on lights when a user enter a room, adjusting volume based on user distance, or pausing a movie when a user leaves the room. INNER REFLECTION's proprietary ultrasound virtual sensor technology provides a 180-degree interaction hemisphere, sensitive to submillimeter motion.
Elliptic Labs is demoing the technology at CES in Suite 510 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. INNER REFLECTION is available now to OEMS making smart speakers, smartphones, and any device showing multimedia.
"INNER REFLECTION elevates device interaction to the level of intuition, enabling OEMs to truly distinguish their products from the competition," says Laila Danielsen, CEO of Elliptic Labs. "Consumers crave both innovation and consistency, and INNER REFLECTION provides both without adding any additional hardware. Our technology is based on machine learning and leverages both ultrasound and sensor fusion, delivering accurate results while enabling use cases that no other sensor on the market currently can."
James Johnson, managing director at IoT Breakthrough, says that in addition to its focus on growth, the IoT market is creating tangible value for consumers and businesses. "Elliptic Lab's INNER REFLECTION and our other 2019 IoT Breakthrough Award winners deliver on that focus, providing true value with new and innovative technology such as machine learning and artificial intelligence."
